Lesson Objectives - Students take their Vocabulary Unit 6 quiz.  They will then start their Embedded Assessment.  This assignment has three parts:
  1. YESTERDAY:  First, select a print advertisement and write a well-developed paragraph that identifies specific techniques, claims, language, and images in the ad and analyzes the effect of these elements on the intended audience. (#1-3, 125-126)
  2. TODAY:  Next, create a new advertisement for the same product that is targeted for a different audience. (#5-8, pages 127-128)
  3. TOMORROW: Finally, write a reflection to explain the relationship between the content of an ad and the intended audience.  Support your explanation by pointing out differences between the original and new ads. (9-11, pages 128-129)
Homework - The Embedded Assessment is due tomorrow.

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.7.1 Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.7.8 Trace and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is sound and the evidence is relevant and sufficient to support the claims.
