Tuesday, November 30th

Parents and Guardians: Today, I have added a new feature to the daily website.  In bold print, I will provide the grade level standards as they pertain to the daily lesson.  If you even have any questions about these standards, please email me with the address listed above or leave a comment below the blog post. 

8th Grade:
Lesson Objectives -Students will be able to continue their interview project where they are to discuss their accomplishments.  Doing so will enable them to understand the difference between genres (8.4.2b) as well as identify the effect of point of view (8.2.4f).
Homework - Interview Question:  What is success?  Is success always defined by the amount of money one makes?  Explain with examples.



7th Grade:
Lesson Objectives -Students will be able to identify and use the meanings of frequently used Greek and Latin derived roots and affixes to determine the meaning of unknown words (7.2.2a). They will then examine the author's use of personification as a literary device in the story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi (7.2.4c.1.1)
Homework -Answer in a paragraph: Think about your pet or an animal you have come into contact with on a regular basis.  In what ways does this animal show human behavior traits?  Explain with details.

Monday, November 29th

8th Grade
Lesson Objectives - Aside from starting the next vocabulary unit, students will also start their next story, "Mr. Misenheimer's Garden."  Students will then use observations from the actions and thoughts of the main character to create a generalization, or a broad statement about a person.
Homework - The November RRS is due on Wednesday!

7th Grade
Lesson Objectives - Aside from starting the next vocabulary unit, students will also start their next story, "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi"  Students will make predictions based on the action in the story.
Homework - The November RRS is due on Wednesday!

Monday, November 22nd

8th Grade
Lesson Objectives - Today, students are taking their test on "Flowers for Algernon."
Homework - Classwork pages 1-5 and the sub packet are due tomorrow in the beginning of class.

7th Grade
Lesson Objectives- Students take their quiz on Vocabulary Chapter 5.  They will then read an news article to find the difference between statements of fact and fiction.
Homework -  Classwork pages 1-4 and the sub packet are due tomorrow in the beginning of class.

8th Grade
Lesson Objectives - After students complete their Unit 5 Vocabulary quiz, they will finish their debate concerning the ethical use of medical experimentation.
Homework - Students are to prepare for their test.  Their essay question is the following: Describe the ethical ramifications of experimenting with intelligence levels as seen in “Flowers for Algernon.”  What are the pros and cons?

7th Grade
Lesson Objectives - Students are taking their test on "The War of the Wall" today.
Homework - Students are to prepare for their Chapter 5 Vocabulary quiz. Classwork pages 1-4 and the sub packet will be collected on Tuesday of next week.

8th Grade
Lesson Objectives - Students will be able to identify and correct mistakes related to subject/verb agreement.  They will then present their arguments that discuss the ethical ramifications of performing  an experiment such as the one in "Flowers for Algernon".
Homework - Prepare for tomorrow's quiz on Vocabulary Unit #5.

7th Grade

Lesson Objectives - Students will be able to work in small groups in order to complete their choice of assignment that reflects their understanding of "The War of the Wall."
Homework - Prepare for tomorrow's test on the story.

Lesson Objectives - Students will be able to use characterization techniques to document the changes the main character undergoes over the course of "Flowers for Algernon".  Students will then organize their arguments and eventually debate the ethical ramifications of performing such an experiment as the one in the story.
Homework - November's RRS is due the week after the Thanksgiving break.


7th Grade

 Parents & Guardians:
  • Students will also take their first official round of DCAS testing sometime this week.  Please be sure to stress the importance of this test to your child.
  •  The end of the first marking period is on this Friday, November 5th.  Please be sure to remind your child that any missing/late assignments must be turned by this time.
  • There is NO SCHOOL tomorrow because it is election day.
 7th and 8th Grades:  Both classes are taking their 5th and final test of the first marking period today.  After this, they can work on any missing/late assignments.
