Lesson Objectives - Students will start Vocabulary Unit 15.  They will then identify and explain examples of the author's use of mood and tone found in the short story "The White Umbrella."

Homework -
  • Period 3 - Letter Rough Draft - In a letter to a parent or guardian, summarize the story, “The White Umbrella.”  After that, explain how you made a connection with the narrator (or maybe how the narrator is very different from you.)  Be sure to thank your parent or guardian for what they do for you.  (Length: at least one side of a page)
  • Period 4 -Paragraph Response: "What assumptions do people make about others based on their appearances?  When are looks deceptive?  Explain your answer."

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.7.1 Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.7.2 Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text.
  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.7.3 Analyze how particular elements of a story or drama interact (e.g., how setting shapes the characters or plot).
